This manual, Working with Honey Bees, is for youth who have completed Level 1 and feel ready to start a beehive. Activities in this manual help youth as they acquire a colony and learn how to care for their beehive throughout the year. It also introduces basic beekeeping operations resulting in the production of extracted, chunk or cut comb honey. The 4-H Beekeeping project manuals are not activity-based; rather they are a guide to help young people learn while working with a facilitator. This guide is written for youth in grades six and above just starting with a beekeeping project.
This is the second of three levels in the 4-H Beekeeping Series. Other books include:
- Level 1 – Learning About Beekeeping
- Level 3 – Advanced Beekeeping
- Beekeeping Facilitator’s Guide
